Will at 1 Month

Happy 1-month Birthday, William Mark!

Hard to believe it's already been a month -- and even harder to believe that today (Feb 24th) was actually your DUE date! In the past month, you have brought more joy to our lives than we can express. While your first 18 days were spent in the NICU, you are now home and healthy, and we couldn't be happier! :)

At one month, you weigh 6 pounds, 8.5 ounces. You are a pretty good eater, and you sleep very well! You eat every 3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. You have been pretty gassy, poor guy, no matter what Mama does to change her diet (sorry!). :-/ But when you aren't hurting, you are very good natured!
Will, you are such a sweetheart and have the biggest, darkest eyes (we think they're dark grey right now). You also have quite a bit of black hair (and a big ol' cowlick -- sorry kiddo, that one's from me)!
I love how snuggly you are, and how you make the sweetest little smiles and smirks -- your smiles are like clockwork each time you finish eating! You also often smile when those around you are laughing -- it's so endearing!
You definitely have us wrapped around your tiny little finger, including Big Brother (who tries to hold your hand when you are crying)! We love you more than you'll ever know, Will! God bless you!

Here you were on your first day -- you've come a long way, baby!

Love,
Mama, Dada, Big Brother John, and Wayne-Dog

Favorite Photo Friday - Snapshot #41

[Please note, I was SO close to actually posting this on Friday... but I fell asleep, ha! Oh well, best of intentions...]

Finally! I'm doing one of these on time! :) Today we are celebrating Will's one month birthday -- boy how time flies! But that will be a separate post... Now back to Favorite Photo Friday, and as usual, I have way too many photos!

Sweet Will snoozin':
'Nuff said. Suppose I'm sleep deprived??!

Happy boy after a nap!

Sweet moment with Dada:

Big eyes!

Spaghetti face!

Sleeping like an angel:

Bathtime fun with Gramma!

Boo! Peek-a-boo over the couch never gets old!

My favorite boys!

Gramma, Will, and me -- my mom went home today after an entire MONTH up here in Lubbock! With two grandsons born here (Will - Jan 24th, Henry - Feb 6th), she sure was busy! We are so very very grateful for all of her help!! Thanks again, Mom! Love you!!

Well that's it... hope you had a great week and enjoy your weekend! Take care and God bless!

Love,
Abby, Andy, John, Will, and Wayne-Dog :)

Feb 10th - Day 18 (Final Day!!) in the NICU

Praise God!! Will is coming home today!! On Friday, February 10th, Will is finally graduating from the NICU! We are so excited to bring him home -- what a joyous occasion!

Andy was able to take a half-day on Friday to bring Will home as a family. So I spent most of the morning tying up loose ends at the NICU and doing last-minute preparations to bring Will home. Sadly, I finally installed the carseat base that morning! Nothing like waiting till the last minute! ;) This is how I found our sweet Will that morning:

Suppose we're happy to be packing him up and taking him home?!

A partial family photo in the NICU -- John was waiting just outside with Gramma and Gramps:

We had to take a picture with our favorite nurse, Kristie! She took such good care of Will and was such a BIG advocate for her TINY little patient! :) We thank God for her:

William Mark -- all strapped in and ready to roll!

Big Brother John waiting outside... I absolutely love this photo!!

Grampa and John's reactions when we first brought John out of the NICU:

Dada introducing John to Will:

Once we were all packed in the car, we realized we couldn't get a photo of all four of us, so here's one of our chauffeur:

And here's one of my boys and me stuffed in the backseat:

Will wearing his bonnet home... Yes, it's a bonnet. And yes, Andy will probably harass me for putting it in here. ;) But it's a Bergman family tradition to wear it home from the hospital. Let me explain -- my Mom made it from a handkerchief, and on Will's wedding day, his bride can use it as her hanky and her "something old." There's a sweet poem that tells the story (posted at the end of this). All the Bergman kids and grandkids have one, and each of us kids used ours in our weddings...

The "Welcome Home" sign that John made for Little Brother (with Gramma's help, of course! Thanks again, Gram!)

When we got home, we tried to see if John would hold Will -- he was curious at first, but quickly got freaked out. So we'll wait until he has a chance to warm up to him to try that again! ;)

Man oh man, life is GOOD! It feels so right to have him home and simply be able to hold him while sitting on our couch -- it's the little things in life, ya know?

Our first family photo as a family of FOUR! (It was past nap-time for John, can you tell?) ;)

We are beyond excited to finally have Will home! He had SUCH good care while in the NICU, for which we are so very grateful, but it's just so good to have him home. Now it finally feels right! (And now the sleepless nights begin, ha!) Thank you again to everyone for your prayers, support, love, and encouragement. All of the prayers, rosaries, and Mass intentions sure went a long way -- we can't thank you enough! We have the absolute best family and friends -- we love y'all!

Well that gets us all caught up with Will's NICU adventures! :) I originally planned to post about each day as it happened, but I quickly realized that spending the majority of your days at the hospital (or back and forth, trying to spend time with John as well), takes a lot more time and energy than I realized. It really made me feel for the poor moms and dads we met who have kiddos who had been in the NICU for 4-6 weeks already (one mom's baby had been there 13 weeks, bless her heart!)... we were lucky to have had only 3 weeks there! It also made for a ton of posts, but I simply wanted to document it for our family's sake. :) Thanks again and God bless!

Love,
Abby, Andy, John, Will, and Wayne-Dog :)

The aforementioned poem:

I'm just a little hanky as square as square can be
But with a stitch or two they make a bonnet out of me.
I'll be worn home from the hospital or on that special day,
Then I'll be neatly pressed and carefully tucked away.
For her wedding day, so we've been told
Every well-dressed bride must have something old.
So what could be more fitting than to find little me?
A few stitches snipped and a wedding hanky I'll be.
And if perhaps it is a boy, someday he'll surely wed,
So to his bride he can present the hanky once worn upon his head.

Feb 9th - Day 17 in the NICU

First thing Thursday morning, Will had another echocardiogram. Dr. Robinson's (the pediatric cardiologist) report said it showed Will's PDA was unchanged (still open), and that he also had both a PFO (patent foramen ovale -- a hole between the two atria that is open in utero and should close when the pressure changes once baby is born... Will's is still open) and an ASD (atrial septal defect -- a separate hole between the two atria that also allows blood to flow/mix between the two atria...). Fortunately, Will is not symptomatic -- meaning his vitals are stable and these openings/heart defects don't seem to limit him right now. That means we get to take him home!!! :-D We'll follow up with Dr. Robinson in a few weeks and get a better idea of what these congential heart defects really mean -- if/how Will may be limited, treatment options, etc.

Also today, Dr. Carroll was rounding while I was up visiting/feeding Will and we finally got to talk (it had been a few days!). We learned that Dr. Carroll requires his babies to eat on their own for a full 48 hours (not 24 hours like we had thought) before discharging from the NICU. Will has been eating ALL his meals by bottle or breast since 6am yesterday -- that makes it OVER 24 hours already! Way to go!! Soooo... that means that unless somethings changes, we get to take Will home TOMORROW!!!! Horray!!!

We are so proud of this little guy!
Our all-American boy -- "I pledge allegiance to the flag..." ;)

Can't wait for tomorrow!! Thank you again for all the prayers -- they have definitely been answered! We are ecstatic to bring him home and finally unite our family of four!

Love,
Abby, Andy, John, Will, and Wayne-Dog :)

Big Brother & Little Brother

Earlier this week, John got to hold Will for the first time! He's really warmed up to him since bringing Will home on Feb. 10th, and now he's actually interested in holding his little brother!

Too sweet!

Checking out Little Brother:

"Nnnnaa!" (nose)

Think he'll keep him?

Ah, life with two boys is wonderful! We'll have our challenges and definite bouts of chaos, but life is good. Can't wait to watch these two brothers grow up together!

Love,
Abby, Andy, John, Will, and Wayne-Dog :)

Favorite Photo Friday - Snapshot #40

This week's post is just one day late... that's not too bad, right? Ha! This post also has WAY TOO MANY pictures, but this sleep-deprived Mama is too indecisive to cut any more out. Plus this is my way of archiving our little boys growing up, which is how I'm going to justify to myself the ridiculous amount of photos below... :)

We've had a great week -- Friday marked one full week of having Will home! John has enjoyed having Gramma around (and Andy and I are very grateful to still have Gramma here -- she has been SO helpful!! Thanks again, Mom!) :) Will is doing well and hopefully growing... at his NICU follow up appt with the pediatrician, he hadn't gained any weight since leaving the NICU 5 days prior -- so we've been really trying to fatten him up! Ok, now on to the photos!

This one pretty much sums up Mom's time over at our house -- snuggling Will and entertaining John! Way to go, Gram!

What's more fun than an empty cardboard box?!

Gramma helped John paint for the first time! While he wasn't sure what to think of it at first, I think we'll have quite an artist on our hands in no time:

Here's Will.... just busy melting my heart away:

Ah, yes. John's favorite pastime. Emptying the entire contents of his drawers. This is a daily event, regardless of how many "No's" he gets or how many times he has to help put everything back... There are definitely worse messes he could be making, so I guess I won't complain!

Last Saturday, Joe, Mandi, and their kids came by to meet Will! They've been super supportive but hadn't been able to meet him yet since he was in the NICU so long. Andy also got to meet their brand new baby, Henry!

Snuggling cousins! (Will on the left, Henry on the right. This was so sweet!)

An attempt at a family (of four!) photo:

Silly boy, wearing Mama's shoes!

As I did with John, I wanted to take a photo of Will next to the same toy each month to show his growth. Since I didn't get a chance to really do this when he was brand new, this is Will at 3 weeks: (He was not a fan of being unswaddled and undressed!)

What a sweetheart! Holding Gramma's finger:

Suppose he has enough toys?!?

I'll leave you with a few of my favorites of Will:

Have a wonderful weekend (what's left of it!)! God bless.

Love,
Abby, Andy, John, Will, and Wayne-Dog :)
