First thing Thursday morning, Will had another echocardiogram. Dr. Robinson's (the pediatric cardiologist) report said it showed Will's PDA was unchanged (still open), and that he also had both a PFO (patent foramen ovale -- a hole between the two atria that is open in utero and should close when the pressure changes once baby is born... Will's is still open) and an ASD (atrial septal defect -- a separate hole between the two atria that also allows blood to flow/mix between the two atria...). Fortunately, Will is not symptomatic -- meaning his vitals are stable and these openings/heart defects don't seem to limit him right now. That means we get to take him home!!! :-D We'll follow up with Dr. Robinson in a few weeks and get a better idea of what these congential heart defects really mean -- if/how Will may be limited, treatment options, etc.
Also today, Dr. Carroll was rounding while I was up visiting/feeding Will and we finally got to talk (it had been a few days!). We learned that Dr. Carroll requires his babies to eat on their own for a full 48 hours (not 24 hours like we had thought) before discharging from the NICU. Will has been eating ALL his meals by bottle or breast since 6am yesterday -- that makes it OVER 24 hours already! Way to go!! Soooo... that means that unless somethings changes, we get to take Will home TOMORROW!!!! Horray!!!

Can't wait for tomorrow!! Thank you again for all the prayers -- they have definitely been answered! We are ecstatic to bring him home and finally unite our family of four!
